Samples of Edited Text

Each book manuscript is unique, and they require varying levels of editing. That’s why I have to see your manuscript before I can tell you exactly what the editing fee will be. Below are examples of light, moderate, and heavy editing.

Light Editing

Before:

If the statement was meant to frighten her the girl was having none of it. She had delicate features and close cropped hair, and dark eyes that expressed an alert self confidence. Her black skin was covered with sweat. She wore an UNSA uniform shirt that was hanging past her knees. A large pouch was cinched to her waist with a cord. The boy was tall and thin, with ash blond hair and blue, pale eyes. He wore a pair of knee-length shorts that may once have been white.

Before:

The policeman directing traffic told us the Church was full and to go to the gymnasium where a closed circuit television would be showing the healing service. We had even arrived before the doors were supposed to open, but the police had all ready let in eight hundred people. They had been waiting outside for hours. Then an usher came out and said there were five empty seats, we jumped over the barricade and ran in.

When we arrived, the policeman directing traffic told us that the church was already full and that we should go to the gymnasium for a closed-circuit television broadcast of the healing service. Even though we had arrived before the doors were supposed to open, the police had already let in eight hundred people who had been waiting outside for hours.

Then, in what seemed to be a harbinger of good fortune, an usher came out of the church and said there were five empty seats. We jumped over the police barricade and ran in.

Before:

He saw that she had more questions but the elevator stopped before she could ask them, and the doors opened to a wide empty corridor. “Have you ever been down here,” he asked. “A few times,” She looked at the placard across from the elevator, then added. “The residential quarters are spinward. Then we should be able to follow the stateroom numbers.” Erek looked where she had indicated. Passageways branch off with recessed doorways between them. Using this major corridor will expose them to brigs or possibly even guardsmen. But trying to find a less conspicuous route would take too much time.He tucked the pellet gun into his belt. “Let’s go.”

The look on her face told him she had more questions, but the elevator came to a stop before she could ask them. The doors slid open to another wide corridor that looked as deserted as the one they’d just left.

“Have you ever been down here?” he asked as they stepped out.

“A few times.” She studied the placard across from the elevator, then tipped her head to the left. “The residential quarters are spinward from here. Once we get close, we should be able to follow the stateroom numbers.”

Erek looked down the corridor in the direction she had indicated. Passageways branched off on both sides at regular intervals, with recessed doorways between them. Using this major corridor would expose them to the risk of running into brigs, or possibly even guardsmen. But trying to find a less conspicuous route would take time – something they didn’t have.

He tucked the pellet gun into his belt where he could reach it quickly. “Let’s go.”
