Fee Schedule

Manuscript Evaluation – $285

I’ll read your novel or book-length nonfiction manuscript, evaluate its market potential, and give you a written assessment of its strengths and weaknesses. I’ll tell you if it’s ready for a major commercial publisher. If it isn’t, I’ll tell you why. I’ll also give you an appraisal of your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. If your writing career is worth $285 to you, this is the place to start. Turnaround time is two to three weeks. Learn more.

Manuscript Critique – $22 per thousand words

My critique will show you how to turn your manuscript into a book with solid commercial value. I’ll do that by giving you clear feedback and practical, detailed advice about ways to improve plot structure, scene development, characterization, viewpoint, narrative style, and other elements. I’ll show you how to bring your characters to life, how to give your scenes more dramatic focus, how to keep your story line on track. My manuscript critiques typically run from thirty to sixty pages, depending on the length of the manuscript. Turnaround time is usually six to eight weeks. Learn more.

Manuscript Editing – $40 to $50 per thousand words

In today’s tough publishing climate, you can’t give literary agents and publishers any excuse to toss your manuscript onto the reject pile. If your manuscript doesn’t have a professional look, agents and publishers won’t even read far enough to discover whether or not you’ve written a good story. When I edit your manuscript, I’ll correct the mechanical errors (spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc.) and I’ll polish the prose to improve clarity and narrative flow. The end result is a new manuscript in electronic form ready for submission to literary agents and publishers. Turnaround time is eight to ten weeks. Learn more.

Book Proposal – $950 and up

To get your foot in the door of the publishing business, you’ll need an effective book proposal. I’ll prepare one for you, and I’ll give you the names and contact information of the right literary agents for your book. I’ll help you avoid the mistakes that can make the difference between sale and rejection.  Learn more.

Major Rewrite – $15,000 and up

Maybe you’ve written a rough draft of your book, but you know it needs a lot of work. I’ll develop a rewrite plan and go over it carefully with you to make sure we’re in agreement with the scope of the work to be done, then I’ll overhaul your manuscript from the ground up. I’ll also prepare a book proposal and compile a list of literary agents who will be right for your book. Turnaround time is three to six months. Learn more.

Ghostwriting – $25,000 and up

I’ll write your book based on your story idea or outline. The goal is to produce a marketable book while remaining true to your vision of the story. I’ll also prepare a book proposal and compile a list of literary agents who will be right for your book. Turnaround time is typically four to six months.  Learn more.

Payment Options

For everything but major rewrites and ghostwriting jobs, I require payment in advance via check or credit card.

For major rewrites and ghostwriting, an initial retainer will get the ball rolling and pay for the development work, then monthly payments can be made as the work progresses.
