You’ve written a rough draft of your book, but you know it needs more than a final edit. The characters are sketchy, the plot takes too many detours, or the central conflict goes flat in the middle. If your book has those kinds of problems, it needs a major rewrite.
If I rewrite your book, I’ll start with a firm idea of what kind of story you want to tell and how you want to tell it. Then I’ll develop my ideas about the major changes that will have to be made. That can include character additions or deletions, changes in the treatment of the central conflict and subplots, and major scene changes.
Then I’ll go over my suggestions with you to make sure you understand what I’ll be doing to your book. If you have problems with the development work, we’ll iron them out at that point.
Once we’re in agreement on the work to be done, I’ll begin the rewrite. Each week or so I’ll send you a draft so you can see how it’s coming along. When I’m done, you’ll have a new manuscript ready to send to literary agents and publishers. Of course, I guarantee confidentiality. You will be listed as the sole author of the book. My name will not appear on the publishing contract or the book cover. All copyright and financial rights to the book will be yours.
I’ll also prepare a book proposal (a one-page query letter, a synopsis of two to four pages, an author’s bio, and a chapter-by-chapter outline), and I’ll compile a list of literary agents who will be right for your book. I’ll guide you through the process of querying literary agents and publishers, and I’ll be available by phone or email whenever you need further help during the publishing process.
The fee for a major rewrite starts at $10,000, depending on the scope of the project and specific requirements. Turnaround time varies, but is usually three to six months.
