About Me

Your book is your baby.

If you’re going to entrust it to my care,

you deserve to know a little about me.

I’m a writer.

My first novel, Timejumper, was published by Leisure Books in 1980. The Tartarus Incident, The Pandora Stone, and Starjacked! were published by Ace/Berkley in 1983 through 1988. Clarion was published by Tor Books in 1990, and Bloodright was published in 2011. An update and reissue of The Pandora Stone was also published in 2011, and The Tartarus Incident was reissued in 2012. A Plague of Gods was published in January 2016. Next in line are The Prince of Blue Peril and The Shattered Man.

I’m a freelance editor, book doctor, and ghostwriter.

For more than two decades I’ve been helping writers get their first books published. Those books have included mainstream novels, suspense thrillers, historical novels, mystery novels, science fiction, horror, chick lit, and other genres as well as autobiographies, memoirs, exposés, and other nonfiction books.

I’ve been a member of the Authors Guild, America’s oldest and most respected professional organization for writers, since 1995.

I’m a regular guy.

I was born in rural Illinois, spent most of my life in southern Arizona, and now live in the beautiful high desert near Santa Fe, New Mexico, with my wife (and childhood sweetheart) Martha. From our patio we have spectacular views of the Rio Grande Valley, the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges, and at night the lights of Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Albuquerque.

My daughters live with their significant others on opposite sides of the continent, one in Seattle and one in New York City. We talk frequently and get together as often as possible, but I’ll never give up trying to convince them that New Mexico is truly the Land of Enchantment.

I have a business degree from Arizona State University and worked as a corporate planner before changing careers in 1988 to become a full-time writer and editor. Yes, that was quite a change of direction, and I wake up every morning feeling like the luckiest guy in the world.

If I’m not at my computer working on my book or someone else’s, you might find me relaxing with a glass of wine on the back patio, working out in the gym, or exploring the back roads of New Mexico with Martha and pursuing my quest for the perfect margarita.
